Join artist Darcell Apelu, whose work features in The tongue to them exhibition for a creative and thought-provoking workshop that reimagines what monuments and legacy can be. Together, we’ll look at whose stories are honoured in public spaces and how values of manākitanga and a Te Ao Māori worldview can reshape the way we see people, places, and histories.

Through guided discussion and hands-on making, you’ll design and build your own mini monument - a small sculpture that reflects your personal sense of legacy and care. Using simple, accessible materials, you’ll bring your ideas to life and take home your completed maquette.

No prior experience needed - just curiosity and creativity.

Suitable for ages 16+. $10, bookings essential

Contact the Gallery to register – 06 871 5095 or hastingsartgallery@hdc.govt.nz.
