Join us for a special kōrero with renowned artist Diane Prince and curator Gina Matchitt as they delve into 'Diane Prince: Activist Artist' - a multimedia exhibition that merges art and advocacy, foregrounding Māori rights and the enduring relevance of Prince’s work. This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from Diane about her creative process, the meaning behind her work, and the role of art in activism and resistance. Together, Diane and Gina will explore themes of material, memory, and mana woven throughout the exhibition.

Gina Matchitt grew up in Rotorua and studied jewellery at Unitec School of Design, Auckland and Māori Visual Arts at Toioho ki Āpiti at Massey University, Manawatū. Drawing on her iwi affliations, Te Arawa and Te Whakatōhea, her work is a fusion of Māori and Pākehā practice knowledge and concepts. Matchitt explores mātauranga Māori by reinterpreting Māori pattern and language with contemporary materials. Her work is featured in many New Zealand collections including Te Papa Tongarewa, Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland Museum and The Dowse. Gina Matchitt lived in Washington DC and Rome from 2007 until 2014. The artist returned to Aotearoa with her whānau in 2014 and continues to work on her art practice. She is currently a Curator – Poutiaki Whakatiki at Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery.
